Shoegaze...
Not too long ago a friend of mine, Josh, gave me a My Bloody Valentine CD called "Loveless." I fell in love almost straight away... But this introduced me to a brand new genre, one that I later realised I was already familiar with...
According to the Gods of knowledge, wikipedia (ha), shoegaze began with the Chateau Twins and followed shortly by My Bloody Valentine in the early 1980s. It was later on mimiced (if only slightly) by bands such as The Cure, The Jesus And Mary Chain and The Verve. More recently... bands such as M83 and Silversun Pickups have joined the bandwagon.
Anyway, I cant wait for new material from My Bloody Valentine (yes, they have rejoined after a 15+ year hiatus) check out some of their music..
Thanks josh!
I own three radiohead EP's. These are My Iron Lung, 2plus2isfive (or COMLAG) and Airbad/How Am I Driving. Each EP has its moment or moments but I cant decide which is the best... I do love the songs Lewis(mistreated) and Pearly... They rock. Just thoughts...
(Also, i bought Airbag/How Am I Driving for $4(AUS) at a pawn shop... how awesome!?!?!)
The new Panic At The Disco album Pretty.Odd is blowing my mind at the moment. The Beatle-esque soundscape of this record is beautiful and keeps you interested from the opening lines of "We're So Starving" to the closing track (extremely reminiscent of "The End" by The Beatles) "Mad As Rabbits"
Pretty.Odd really suprised me and I was so scared for the band due to the outrageous hype amongst the pop/punk/emo crowd and the 2nd album syndrome was relevant... However, Panic At The Disco have come out with this different sound that might remove the pop punk/emo fanbase as quickly as the (!) was removed.
Personally, I believe that Pretty.Odd is one of the greatest releases this year and I look forward to future work from the quirky four-piece
P.s. Check this out... It is Panic At The Disco covering "Karma Police" by Radiohead and they do a great job! "This is what you get, when you FUCK WITH US!!!!!!!"
Thanks... Paul.
As this is my first blog I thought i would take this opportunity to discuss the registration process for vox and, well, most websites in general. The thing that really confuses me is when u have to choose your birth year... the first suggestion that slides down is 1900. Now, I dont mean to be pedantic but.... Last time I checked, 108 year-olds don't usually use the internet, or live. But good on you vox for not being discriminatory of those aged over 100... Well done.
Anyway, I am glad to join vox and I will keep you all updated on what I am listening to and what is cool and hip... Thank you for accepting me with open arms into the world of online blogging.
Paul..
